From today - the 25 May 2021 - these poster and many others highlighting the wonderful hand made products produced as part of the #42ndGiftshop project, will be exhibited outside Stretford Public Hall in the Pocket Park next to the building. The posters show a selection of the project's most recent work and a reliving of past designs, and the artists who worked with them.
The Gift Shop Project has been created through 42nd Street, who have been supporting young people aged 13-25 from across Trafford to participate in the #42ndGiftShop. The project has produced handmade products to be exhibited and sold across Greater Manchester.
The participants took part in a series of workshops in person and online (due to Covid) hosted by well established artists. They developed new skills, acquired knowledge on social enterprise and focussed on how they could incorporate general well-being into their designs. Art forms that they practised included; print, jewellery, graphic design, photography, fashion and pottery.
They hosted pop up events and collaborated with several groups in Trafford; Rainbow Reflections – Proud Trust, Collaborate Women, Transitions Group, Trafford Young Carer’s, Gorse Hill studio’s, Old Trafford Youth Forum, Butterflies Young Parents Group, Moss Studio Store, St John Vianney RC School, and Saturday Challenge. Throughout the project #42ndGiftshop had pop up stalls which were run by the young people and seven participants were selected to do more focussed work with an artist, which has recently been exhibited as a window display at the Horsefall on Ancoats and online.
We really hope you enjoy this exhibition!
With special thanks to Jessica Loveday and Friends of Stretford Public Hall. Trafford Housing for funding the project and support from the participating groups, and Greystone Action Sports, Limelight, Manchester Craft and Design Centre and OT Creative.
