If lockdown has you feeling stressed out, please join us for an hour of free mindfulness online.

For the month of November, during lockdown, Stretford Public Hall is offering free mindfulness Zoom sessions every Tuesday, starting at 9.00 am.

Our mindfulness classes explore different styles of meditation, including mantra, loving kindness and mindfulness; helping you to relax, find inner calmness and create a happier, healthier state of mind.

Wellbeing Tuesday continuing on Zoom

Changes to Classes and Activities at the Hall due to current Government Guidance

Wellbeing Tuesdays:

Starting next week all our Wellbeing Tuesday classes will continue to be available on Zoom; we will no longer be able to hold them face to face at the Hall as a result of the recent changes to government guidelines. For clarity, all this Tuesday’s classes (Tuesday 3rd November 2020) will be available at the Hall and over Zoom as normal. From Tuesday 10th November all our classes will be via Zoom only, until government guidelines change. We will of course be following the government's announcements regarding our options in a month's time.

If you have already booked face to face classes this month, your tickets will automatically be transferred to a Zoom version. Your Zoom link will be available by opening your booking confirmation e-mail, clicking 'View Booking', and then clicking 'View Zoom Event'. If you are unable to participate in classes online please contact Joanna at [email protected]

You can continue to book Zoom classes should you wish and due to the lack of restrictions on capacity you will find more spaces available in the classes.

Burn calories whilst having fun with simple dance, stretching and strengthening. Open to all. Class instructed by Bridget.

Chairobics - 2.30pm-3.30pm

Sit and get fit with Charlotte! A fun-filled class for the gentle exercise fan. Chairs are provided.

For Chairobics only, we're trialling a face to face and online system alongside each-other. So you have the option to come to the class at the hall, or follow along live from home. Please note that we need a minimum of 6 attendees to run this class.

Yoga- 7.30pm-8.30pm

Improve your strength, flexibility, reduce stress, improve your immune system and general wellbeing. Suitable for all levels. Class instructed by Gaynor.

Movement for Pregnancy and Birth - Mondays 6.00pm-7.00pm

These classes focus on moving in a way that feels good during pregnancy.

They can help you to move intuitively during labour – which is the key to having a calm, gentle birth.

Very effective on pelvic strength, stability, flexibility, and mobility, preventing discomfort and gently training your stamina.

Connect with your body and your baby through movement and awareness.

The movements are simple and slow and suitable for everyone, no dance experience necessary.

Yoga for all: Mondays 7.30-8.30pm

Yoga for All classes are suitable for all levels, from absolute beginners to seasoned yogis, and include asana (poses), pranayama (breathing exercises) and meditation practices to develop strength, flexibility and a state of relaxed awareness to improve your overall wellbeing.

Having practised yoga since 2004 and taught since 2012, Richard is an enthusiastic advocate of the physical, mental and spiritual benefits of yoga practice, and how these can help all of us on a practical level in everyday life.

In the current circumstances and with the need to 'track and trace', Stretford Public Hall isn’t allowing drop-in classes. Attendees are asked to book for blocks of 4 classes (£20 for 4 classes).

Mum and Baby Yoga with Helen: Tuesdays

45 minute sessions on  Tuesdays starting 15th September 2020.  12.10 -12.55pm or 1.10-1.55pm.
£20 per block of 5 sessions. Limited class sizes due to current restrictions.  
A fun mix of gentle stretches for new mum's and songs and stretches for babies.
The class is suitable for women and their babies from 6-8 weeks old till mobile.
Sivananda Yoga: Wednesdays 6pm-7pm
General Class/Mixed ability/All welcome
£5 per adult

Emma Howard is registered as a senior teacher with Yoga Alliance UK. She is qualified in Sivananda Yoga, Sports Yoga and Ashtanga Yoga and has been teaching yoga for 19 years. She is due to qualify in January 2021 as a Yoga Therapist registered with the BBP (British Board Psychology). She is also a mainstream Drama and Dance teacher and a mother of 3. Her family Yoga Class combines aspects of yoga, wellbeing and mindfullness, alongside general having fun.
GKR Karate: Wednesdays 7.30pm-8.30pm 
Karate is an ideal sport for everyone, who would like to build self-confidence, balance, co-ordination, discipline, fitness and courtesy, while learning basic self-defence skills. Children may start from as young as 5.
Here at Stretford we run a family class, allowing people of all ages to train together in the same class. Parents may train alongside their children, while brothers and sisters of all ages may also train in the same class.

October 2020: Hall Update

We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who attended and supported our successful AGM this October. Due to Covid-19 most participants attended via Zoom, so we have achieved our first digital AGM!

One of the highlights of our AGM this year was a virtual tour and update of the extensive works being undertaken in the Hall's ballroom area through-out this year. This footage was created by Buttress, our architects, who have allowed us to share it on this website, enabling us to show you the amazing progress being made! 

 

The minutes of our AGM and a copy of the Powerpoint shown at the event will soon be available on this website.

Another highlight of this year's AGM was the formal presentation to the Hall and its volunteers of the Queens Award for Voluntary Service. The award was delivered by a representative of the Queen. All our volunteers should have received their Queens Award badge and our thanks for all their ongoing hard work and support.

In addition, this month we would like to share with you the fabulous winners of our Flag Competition. There are 6 winners of the Stretford Public Hall flag design competition, where we asked local people to respond
to the brief ‘reasons to be cheerful’.

The judges of the completion were Kate Green, Labour MP for Stretford & Urmston and Shadow Education Secretary, Venessa Scott, Artist and Designer Specialist in Creative Education, and Daniel Williamson, Chair of Friends of Stretford Public Hall.

We would like to thank everyone who took part. Look out for the new flags outside the Hall very soon!

Big Comedy Shop: Workshops for kids during October Half Term

 

 

 

We are pleased to announce that the Big Comedy Shop will be delivering workshops on comedy sketches and improvisation, for kids aged 9 to 12 years old, at the Hall over this coming October Half Term.

These workshops will be held from Monday 26 October through to Thursday 29th October. You can book on for any number of days; for one, two, three or all four days! The workshops will be from 10.30 am to 3.30 pm. Each workshop will cost £35.00 a day. 

Instructors are DBS checked and will be working in line with the current government guidelines on Covid-19.

Coming Soon: Pink Purse's Online LGBTQ Cabaret Night !

 

 

Back by public demand Pink Purse brings you a night of LGBTQ cabaret and this time they bringing the show right into your living rooms, with their online event, live from Stretford Public Hall!

'From retro to right now and cool to quirky, acts promise to entertain all genders, ages (over 18) and sexualities'.

The event will be on Friday 6 November 2020. The time will be 20:00 pm - 21.30 pm and it is FREE and ONLINE.

New Trafford Drop-In Advocacy Service

     

 

We are also please to announce that a NEW Trafford Drop-In Advocacy Service will be held at the Hall, which will be focused on the hard of hearing, elderly deafened, d/Deaf or deafblind residents of Trafford. This service is a partnership between Trafford Council and the Manchester Deaf Centre.

This service will start at the Hall on Thursday 15 October at 10.00 am -12.00 midday and will continue every Thursday at the same time until Thursday 21 December 2020 (excluding Thursday 29th October).  

The range of support available will include:


 Letter translation / Telephone calls;


 Wellbeing and healthy lifestyle advice;


 Referral to other support services, e.g. stop smoking, weight management;


 Access to online fitness classes via Zoom, and


 Coaching on digital competency and device access (subject to availability).

It's all about getting people back on their bikes!

 

We are please to announce, on behalf of the Culture Champions Project and their partners, a new volunteering opportunity for Traffords over 50's.  

These volunteers will be part of a new and exciting bike maintenance and repairs project, which will offer local people a much needed and FREE service to help them get back on their bikes!

Six dedicated volunteers are wanted to help others at local pop-up events with bike maintenance and repairs. These 'Cycle Maintenance Volunteers' will receive the relevant training, which will initially be held on Thursday 15 October 11.00 am to 3.00 pm at The Open Cafe Area, Stretford Mall, M32 9BD.

Friends of Stretford Public Hall Annual General Meeting (AGM) 2020

Friends of Stretford Public Hall (FOSPH) would like to invite you to this year’s Annual General Meeting, which is taking place on Sunday 11th October 2020, at 3pm.

The AGM will take place at Stretford Public Hall and will be broadcast live online via Zoom.

Although we would love to welcome everyone to the hall, given current restrictions relating to coronavirus, we are encouraging everyone to join the AGM online.

As our socially distanced classes have worked so well we're back with the same schedule of Wellbeing Tuesday classes in October.

To make the courses we offer as accessible as possible we have put a new booking system in place, which means that:

  • Stretford Public Hall’s exercise classes are now available to be bought on a course basis;
  • From 9.00 am on Wednesday 30 September, where spaces remain in the classes, ad-hoc tickets will go on sale - so if you're not able to make all of the sessions you can book in just for the weeks you want, and
  • If you're unable to book using our online ticketing system, please call 0161 989 1689 and request a call back to book a space, or e-mail [email protected]
